What happens in a first consultation with a real estate or probate litigation attorney, and what should I bring?
Based on an interview with Josué Cristóbal Guerrero, Founding Partner, recorded .
The short answer
You speak with our intake team first. If your matter fits, we schedule a free 30-minute conversation with an attorney. Mostly we listen to your side of the story and ask a lot of questions. Document review starts after you retain us, and you need almost nothing for the consultation. Have the trust or will handy if that is the dispute, and a map if it is an easement or boundary, and Google Maps is usually good enough. We can look up title and deeds during the consultation.
It's about whether or not the story as told gives us an idea of a valid cause of action.
What we are deciding
Whether the facts as you understand them give us a valid cause of action. It is a conversation about those facts, and document review comes later.
What happens next
If there is a valid claim and you want to move forward, you can retain us to file the case. That is the stage where we collect the evidence, documents and communications that back up the story.
This answer is general information about California law and is not legal advice for any specific situation. Deadlines and exceptions turn on your facts.
